The following obituary appeared in the San Jose Mercury News:
Julie Ann Carpenter died peacefully in her Los Angeles home on February 20, 2009, the end of a four-year battle with breast cancer. Her courage and grace during that battle were an inspiration to all who knew her. Born in San Francisco in August, 1962 to Roy Cook and the late Ann Cook, she grew up in Saratoga, California and graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a Bachelors Degree, and from the University of Southern California with a Master of Arts in Urban Planning. She worked for the County of Los Angeles for eighteen years, mostly with the Department of Beaches and Harbors. She is survived by her husband, Tristram; her father Roy and her stepmother Ana; her brother Greg and sister-in-law Jean, and their children Landon and Gemma. She will always be loved and remembered by her family, and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Saratoga Federated Church in Saratoga, California with a burial to follow. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Julie Ann Carpenter Memorial Fund created to honor her memory and assist women who are searching for new treatment options.
